The edge-density for K2, t minors

چکیده
Let H be a graph. If G is an n-vertex simple graph that does not contain H as a minor, what is the maximum number of edges that G can have? This is at most linear in n, but the exact expression is known only for very few graphs H . For instance, when H is a complete graph Kt, the “natural” conjecture, (t− 2)n− 12(t− 1)(t− 2), is true only for t ≤ 7 and wildly false for large t, and this has rather dampened research in the area. Here we study the maximum number of edges when H is the complete bipartite graph K2,t. We show that in this case, the analogous “natural” conjecture, 1 2 (t+1)(n− 1), is (for all t ≥ 2) the truth for infinitely many n.

Edge pair sum labeling of some cycle related graphs
Let G be a (p,q) graph. An injective map f : E(G) → {±1,±2,...,±q} is said to be an edge pair sum labeling if the induced vertex function f*: V (G) → Z - {0} defined by f*(v) = ΣP∈Ev f (e) is one-one where Ev denotes the set of edges in G that are incident with a vertex v and f*(V (G)) is either of the form {±k1,±k2,...,±kp/2} or {±k1,±k2,...,±k(p-1)/2} U {±k(p+1)/2} according as p is even or o...

متن کاملForbidden minors to graphs with small feedback sets
Finite obstruction set characterizations for lower ideals in the minor order are guaranteed to exist by the Graph Minor Theorem. In this paper we characterize several families of graphs with small feedback sets, namely k1-Feedback Vertex Set, k2-Feedback Edge Set and (k1,k2){Feedback Vertex/Edge Set, for small integer parameters k1 and k2. Our constructive methods can compute obstruction sets f...
متن کاملLabeled K2, t Minors in Plane Graphs
Let G be a 3-connected planar graph and let U ⊆ V (G). It is shown that G contains a K2,t minor such that t is large and each vertex of degree 2 in K2,t corresponds to some vertex of U if and only if there is no small face cover of U . This result cannot be extended to 2-connected planar graphs.
متن کاملEliminating Steiner Vertices in Graph Metrics
Given an edge-weighted undirected graph G and a subset of “required” vertices R ⊆ V (G), called the terminals, we want to find a minor G′ with possibly different edge-weights, that retains distances between all terminal-pairs exactly, and is as small as possible. We prove that every graph G with n vertices and k terminals can be reduced (in this sense) to a minor G′ with O(k4) vertices and edge...
